Andrea’s Chair

Comissioned
New York, New York, 2018

Andrea’s Chair is an exploration in preserving seemingly worthless, and frail materials (in this case Cicada wings.)

The chair is made from scrap oak material, brass and acrylic, all sourced from the waste material of a local fabrication shop in Brooklyn, New York. The enclosed Cicada wing panel was created by delicately removing each wing from already dead Cicadas collected over time in the designer’s hometown. The panel was hand-made in layers over a period of days. The chair was created with a blend of CNC manufacturing as well as more typical wood craft methods
